Japanese Article Number, also known as JAN or JAN-13, is a version of the EAN-13 International Article Number system used for retail barcodes in Japan. The first two digits represent the country code, which for Japan is 49 or 45 (the latter was added in 1992). The next five digits represent the manufacturer code and the following five digits represent the product code. The final digit is a check digit calculated through modulo 10.[1]
